Niagara-on-the-lake is a quaint little town full of personality, set along Lake Ontario. It is home to award winning wineries and vineyards, the Shaw theater festival, and an abundance of gourmet restaurants. Here's a guide to some of the best restaurants in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Pubs:

The Irish Harp

This has recently won an award for being the best pub in the town. As the name suggests it is an Irish pub with authentic Irish pub cuisine and decor. Some menu items include meat pies, fish and chips, salads, wings and much more. It also offers a good selection of Canadian and British beers. It's a nice pub atmosphere with live music on most weekends. Dress is casual and it is open late.

Angel Inn

This is one of the most popular restaurants in Old Town. The Angel Inn is a quaint old pub located just off of Queen Street on Regent Street. The food is typical pub food, serving burgers, wraps, fish and chips and the like. The atmosphere is nice with live music on the weekends. The atmosphere is nice and offers a wide selection of beers. It's open late and the dress is casual.

Bars and Grills:

Stone Road Grille

The Stone Road Grille is a bistro style restaurant, with eclectic decor, a nice ambience, and good food. The frequently changing menus make use of the local cheeses, seasonal fruits and vegetables, and of course the local wines. Since it is bistro style it is a noisy restaurant with lots of chatter with lots of people having a good time - Great for a fun night of good food and good people. It's not so great for a quiet, romantic dinner for two. The Grille has a good reputation and has recently been named as one of the best places to eat in Niagara by Frommer's Guide to Niagara. The dress is smart casual.

Grill on King

The Grill on King is a new restaurant situated on beautiful King Street, just down the road from the Prince of Wales Hotel. Despite being new, the food and presentation is great although they have a small dinner menu. With a lovely outdoor patio just off the sidewalk it's a great location to meet with friends for drinks. The Grill on King is also open in the late evening making it perfect for after the theater. It is medium price and the dress is smart casual.

Cafes and Bistros:

The Epicurean Restaurant and Bistro

The Epicurean is located right on Old Town Queen Street amongst all the shops. It's a casual cafe during the day offering good sandwiches and salads. After 5:30pm it's a sit-down bistro with a delicious dinner menu. They offer an extensive, affordable wine list and the menu includes many fresh, seasonal favorites prepared by the chefs in an open kitchen. There is a large outdoor patio at the rear of the restaurant hidden amongst mature trees. In the summer there is sometimes live music on the weekends during dinner hours. It is upper to medium price range with smart casual dress.

Fine Dining:

Old Winery Restaurant

The food at the Old Winery Restaurant is very tasty, particularly the gourmet pizzas which are baked in a wood fired oven. They also offer other dishes including fish, steak, lamb and homemade pasta. The outdoor patio is very beautiful as it overlooks a wooded area. A new addition to the restaurant is the wine bar at the front of the restaurant. Kitchen is open until 11pm making it a great treat after the theater. It is a moderate price restaurant with smart casual dress.

Riverbend Inn

The Riverbend Inn restaurant serves fresh and creative country cuisine. The dining room has the charm and beauty of an authentic salon bar from the 1890's. During the summer dine on the impressive patio that holds 40 people and overlooks the glorious Niagara vineyards. The view is truly spectacular. It's fine dress with medium to upper price range.

Peller Estates Restaurant

Peller Estates is one of the best vineyards in the Niagara-on-the-Lake region, and there food is excellent as well. It's the perfect place for any special occasion. The wine pairing menu is excellent, the decor is lovely and the staff is very attentive. There is also a restaurant in a marquee that overlooks the gardens and vineyard which is quite delightful. It's fine dining at its best. It is medium to upper price range with smart dress.

Niagara-on-the-Lake Golf Club

The Golf Club has recently been renovated as it was taken over by new management. The food is nice as it is the typical golf club cuisine. There is an outdoor patio overlooking the lake, a lovely spot to enjoy a hot summers day! It has a medium price range and smart casual dress.

International Cuisine:

Ginger

Ginger is a good Asian restaurant with excellent dishes that are well prepared and well presented. The dishes are authentic (not your typical Chinese food) and feature all the flavors of Thailand, Japan, Malaysia and China. The meals include plenty of fresh vegetables and generous portions of shrimp, chicken, beef, fish and tofu. It is a medium price range and smart casual dining.
