Don't miss Friday nights at the elegant boutique hotel, Cobblers Cove, for freshly caught seafood and a banquet of caviar
For some of the best seafood and caviar on Barbados, visit the charming Relais & Chateaux hotel, Cobblers Cove, on a Friday night. Those in the know on the island reserve a waterfront table in the Terrace Restaurant for delicious but low-key dining, the only sound above the murmur of conversation the gentle breaking of the waves on the rocks.
Cobblers Cove has its own fisherman, Barker, and the highlight of Caviar and Seafood night is Barker’s catch, which is typically barracuda, snapper, mahi mahi or swordfish, served grilled, pan seared or blackened. Before this, though, there’s a spectacular caviar bar, offering a selection of American and Japanese caviar garnished with potato blini, sieved egg yolk and white capers, shallots, sour cream, chopped chives and lemon and washed down with a choice of Absolut, Stolichnaya, Grey Goose or Finlandia Vodka. There are other options, too; the crab and white onion risotto is creamy, subtle and delicious.
Other mains on a Friday include pan seared flying fish, tuna and amberjack served with a fennel and orange puree, grilled vegetables and vanilla sauce. Even the children’s menu has a new twist on fish fingers, with assorted fish from Barker’s catch served as different shaped goujons with home-made fries.
The biggest treat of all, though, for the adventurous, is to go out with Barker on his boat on a Thursday night and help him bring in the catch, which is all line-caught. It adds a whole new level of satisfaction to the Friday night experience!
